Just watched Jurassic World - surprisingly good. Has the feel of the original.

Indeed. Hadn't ever seen Glaser safety slugs before watching that. An interesting round.

You almost persuaded me into watching into watching Dogs of War the other day. Looked it up on IMDB and saw the cover pic of Christopher Walken holding a Manville! Was the grenade launcher arnie used in T2 a Manville (at the Cyberdyne shoot-out)?

Glasers are basically a really expensive gimmick, used to have a lot of myths surrounding them pre-internet. The Manville launcher is actually just a flare gun, and kind of fragile

Spy is a gem. Similar to Kingsman but even funnier. I laughed out loud all the way through.

Your thoughts?

Haven't watched it in years but don't remember it being especially good, at least compared to the first movie (however cliched it is to say that).

Creepshow (1982) and Cabin Fever: Patient Zero (2014). I don't recommend bothering with the latter.

I definitely prefer the first one. I don't particularly like Danny Glover or Gary Busey so that didn't help. My favourite part is the Predators use of 'Do you want some candy' and that's about it!

That's literally the one and only part of the movie I remember.

Predators (2010) wasn't anything special either, but 5/10 was better than I was expecting (given how much AvP sucked).

My boyfriend wanted me to watch that last night. I managed around half an hour before I went to bed

So did anybody see this?... Inside Out. sure it's a rip-off of the old Fox show, "Herman's Head". It has some really good psycho stuff but is visually stunning. I'm a cartoon kinda-sewer. Really....stunning....Remember that Pixar obsessed on Toy Story because they couldn't do humans. Just youtube "tin toy" for a look at their veddy skeddy bebee I still have nightmares about that thing.

Then look for the ORIGINAL version of "Nick-Nack". ;)

Heh. Check it out. The time travel stuff is well done and there are plenty of references to the original movie. Oh, and Emila Clarke (from Game of Thrones) looks gorgeous.

Fury (2014). Liked it. Definitly worth watching if you're into WWII movies.

Edge of Tomorrow (2014). Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers. Worth a watch. Won't buy it though.

Enemy (2013). If anyone else has watched it, please tell me what you took away from this film. Not sure I understood the 'point'.

Jaws 2 (1978). A worthy squeal, I think. My only complaint is that the annoying girl who screams hysterically at everything didn't get eaten. Guess the director didn't want the audience to side with the shark (which they would have, if only it had done the deed everyone was hoping for).

I saw Transporter Refueled recently. It's a dud. Give it a miss. Jason Statham's shoes are too big for the new guy.

No, and I have a new found reluctance for Matt Damon films. Don't you just hate it when actors decide they're politicians?

Finally watched Hardware (1990) and feel very mixed about it. The movie succeeds in its portrayal of a dystopian world that feels authentically hopeless, and features some good scenes of over-the-top brutality (even if a touch predictable in their timing). However, it lacks originality. It's a collage composed almost entirely of references to the 80's sci-fi/horror genre. Not direct reference, but in terms of styles and ideas. There's hints of Alien (1979), Terminator (1984), Dune (1984), Hellraiser (1987), maybe even Blade Runner (1982) in terms of the polluted, run-down, retro-futuristic cityscape. And Mad Max 2 (1981) of course, because what post-apocalyptic punk themed movie can avoid such a comparison?

Agreed, but wasn't the psychedelic death by robot injection fairly unique? For some reason, when I think of that scene, the Orbital track Attached always comes to mind...

Still on the subject of robots, androids and AI, give Automata a miss but do try to get hold of the whole season of Total Recall 2070. It's very Bladerunnerish. Japan released the series on DVD but the US only released the pilot episode.

I enjoyed Sicario but it was a bit bleak. Like Zero Dark Thirty, the message seems to be that we, the good guys, have to be as bad or worse than the bad guys to win. And there's always a way to circumvent the rule of law.
