So, watched Birdman last night. Wasn't very impressed. Exceptional acting from all involved, but the message of the movie was a bit...redundant? I was bored about 30 minutes in and was ready for the end after an hour. What the writer and director was trying to accomplish could have been done in much less time with much less...artistic interpretation?

I have not watched Birdman.

The last movie that I watched was The Grand Budapest Hotel. I actually enjoyed it, movies normally bore me to tears within 10 minutes. Thanks SandWShooter :P

I watched Her on cable the other night. Very good movie! I'm sure a lot of introverts could empathize.

Kokoda, a movie about Australian soldiers in the Pacific during WW2 trying to hold a track leading to a port that the Imperial Japanese need to use to launch an invasion of Australia. It is brutal, sad, and quite well done; if anyone is interested, it is on youtube right now

I saw Focus the other night. Quite enjoyable but felt there was something missing. A bit too slick, maybe.

Videodrome (1983). About a tv programme that causes the viewer to experience severe hallucinations. Stars James woods and Debra Harry (Blondie).

Trying to get hold of Hardware (1990) next. I hunt on eBay patiently.

Hardware is a cult classic. I have it on VHS, but I see Amazon has both a Bluray and a limited edition DVD.

I saw Fast & Furious 7 at the cinema last week. More of the same stunts, bromance and car wrecks, but good fun.

Yeah, just not sure I want to pony up full price for what might amount to a one-watch affair. Hoping my patience will be rewarded with a good second-hand copy.

Avengers: Age of Ultron. Didn't like it. Almost invincible guys and almost invincible robots beating the shit out of each other is very boring. Plus dumbed down dialogue for 10-year-olds. It sucks.

Mad Max.

Kinda disappointed tbh. The acting mediocre, script writing terrible and the audio...I've seen 50's movies with better voice over.

I liked the original Mad Max (with the Aussie soundtrack, not the awful one with American accents dubbed in), but not the sequels. After two friends had said, "It's terrible!" I went to see Mad Max: Fury Road yesterday and quite enjoyed it. Sure, it's one long car chase, but it's fun and the cinematography and stunts are fantastic.

The main problem for me was Mad Max as played by Tom Hardy. Mel Gibson was taciturn but cool - like Clint Eastwood in a Western, he knows what's going on but prefers not to say much. Hardy comes across as a haunted half-wit. I think the director told him to play the part as if he's been alone in the desert so long he's lost the ability to socialize with other humans, but it really doesn't work. The result is that Charlize Theron is the cool hero and the lasting image of Tom Hardy is the one where he's trussed up like Hannibal Lecter.

Ahh, didn't know there was another version! The one I watched had the american voice-overs. It didn't work well.

Tomorrowland is aimed at kids but it's mostly good fun - certainly not as bad as some critics are making out.

I watched "Fantastic Mr Fox" for the first time the other day, it was surprisingly good. George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, very quirky and creative.

Indeed. Hadn't ever seen Glaser safety slugs before watching that. An interesting round.

You almost persuaded me into watching into watching Dogs of War the other day. Looked it up on IMDB and saw the cover pic of Christopher Walken holding a Manville! Was the grenade launcher arnie used in T2 a Manville (at the Cyberdyne shoot-out)?

That was a good one. The forerunner of the Hannibal movies.
